Bike Fitting at Dales Cycles
Expert Bike Fitting for Every Rider, Every Goal, Every Bike.

A professional bike fit is one of the best investments you can make in your cycling. Whether you're new to riding, training for an event, racing at the highest level or returning after injury, your bike should work with your body—not against it.
At Dales Cycles we've been providing professional bike fitting since 2008, making us one of Scotland's longest established fitting centres. While technology has evolved, one thing hasn't changed: the experience of your fitter is the biggest factor in achieving a successful outcome.
Meet Your Bike Fitter
Bike fitting at Dales is provided by John Dargie, an experienced bike fitter, multisport coach and sports scientist with a background in physiology, biomechanics and exercise science.
Having completed well over 1,000 professional bike fits, John has worked with riders of every age and ability—from first-time riders to WorldTour professionals, Commonwealth Games athletes (including medallists) and championship-winning triathletes. He also has extensive experience helping riders return to cycling following injury, surgery and complex medical conditions.
As both a bike fitter and coach, John looks beyond the bike itself, considering how movement, training, equipment and performance interact to create a position that is comfortable, efficient and sustainable.
Whether you're riding for fun, fitness or competition, every bike fit is tailored to your individual needs and goals—with one aim: to help you ride further, more comfortably, more efficiently and, quite often, faster too.
Why Our Bike Fits Are Different
Most of the decisions that determine a successful bike fit happen before the first adjustment is made.
Every appointment begins with a detailed discussion about your cycling background, goals, training, injury history and any issues you're experiencing. This is followed by an off-bike movement and functional assessment, allowing us to understand how your body moves before assessing you on the bike.
Only then do we begin the dynamic fitting process. Rather than trying to fit every rider into the same position, we build your position around your body, your goals and the riding you do.
Appointments typically last around three hours and include:
- Rider interview and goal setting
- Off-bike movement and functional assessment
- Dynamic on-bike assessment
- Progressive position optimisation
- Written summary and recommendations
Where appropriate, 3D motion capture technology can be incorporated to provide additional objective data and support the fitting process.
Custom Cycling Footbeds
We also offer custom-moulded cycling footbeds, available as part of your bike fit or as a standalone appointment. By improving the connection between your feet and the pedals, they can increase comfort, stability and pedalling efficiency while helping reduce numbness, pressure points and foot fatigue.
Follow-Up
Most riders adapt quickly to their new position, but everybody is different. Follow-up appointments are available should further fine-tuning be required after you've had time to adapt to your new setup.
